Today is 4.3.21...
Today, I wanted to stay home. This date felt like a countdown for something bad would happen. Jon was adamant that we went to Three Sisters Park and boulder, I was superstitious. I remember even offering to pick up dog poop and maybe go to this "new place" next weekend. After he continued to push, we went. The drive was beautiful, and we saw some elk along the way, we arrived at the park and started climbing. Today, he was extra crazy. (Which didn’t ease my anxiety.) I mean he was scaling these 30ft flat facing rocks as I would watch from below. In fact, I was so concerned for his lack of processing the danger to his actions, I face timed his mom. When I called, her and her husband popped up on the screen after one ring... oddly happy. I didn’t think twice and continued to pan to Jon on the rock face and joke about how crazy he is. In the time it took me to explain why I was calling; he was already down the rock and standing behind me. He cut the call short by saying he would be safe and that we would probably be losing service soon and we continued our way to the next chunk of boulders. After, climbing and climbing, we finally made it to the last set of boulders before summiting and being able to overlook Evergreen, Colorado. It was a huge rock with odd twists and turns. I was not confident I could make it with my lack of upper body strength. Jon walked around the back side and set our things up top and came back down to observe what path he would take. He began to climb, when we heard another group at the top, where he just left our bags. I could feel Jon panic and what would take an average person 20 min to climb, he did in minutes. I guess he was worried, that this other group would take or go through our things. I was annoyed because I offered to hold the bag 100x, and normally it is my job. He was so stubborn, he got to the top and clipped our fanny pack to him, still not letting me have it. Then walked back down and checked if I was ready. This would now be his third time climbing, the most challenging rock of the day. Third time is the charm though, because with a few tush pushes, I MADE IT! The view was breath taking and it was so quiet and peaceful.
Jon had plans, plans I didn’t realize he had been training me for a long time now. When we started adventuring, we started doing videos and would then later screen shot them. We would do 5 poses all in a specific order, so it was easy to go back, and screen shot them to save! So, like every other time. He went back to set up the camera while I got in position for the first photo by facing away with my arms up like I am flying. Little did I know, this video was not only going to be used as screen shots. IT WAS MY ENGAGEMENT VIDEO!
The moment was as magical. He captured every second of it! The ring is stunning. My person who I picked the minute I saw him, picked me too!
I didn’t think I was going to be the girl to “Mrs. Congeniality” cry when I got proposed to, but he surprised me! …and so, I happy, ugly cried for sure! After I tripped 100x climbing back down the mountain because I kept playing with my NEW RING, we grabbed lunch as I started to make my announcement calls.! When I called his mom, again the two of them were waiting anxiously to hear the good news. She was so funny saying, "you almost made me blow it earlier because you called, and he came running up behind you to tell us NO! NO! NOT YET." HA-HA OOPS!
Turns out what I thought would be an awful and scary day, was one of the most special days of my life.
